Stillbirth figures (FOI)

How many babies were stillborn in the last five years, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, breaking it down by year. Please include the definition for stillborn.

If you are unable to release the information for any reason or for any of the years can you give a total number for this period, 2011-2015 inclusive, and confirm the Island's official rate of stillbirth. Thank you.

The WHO definition is: babies born after 24 or more weeks completed gestation that did not, at any time, breathe or show signs of life.

There were a total of nine stillbirths from 2013 to 2015 and the stillbirth rate over the three years is three per 1000 births.

Due to the very low numbers involved, an annual breakdown will not be provided as it could lead to the identification of individuals. This information is therefore exempt under Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011.

Article 25 Personal information

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005.

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –
(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005; and
(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.
