Request

Can you give us a year-by-year breakdown of the numbers of people in Jersey who gave blood over the last 10 years?

Response

Health and Community Services hold records of the number of local blood donations collected each year, rather than the number of individuals who donate. Data for the blood donation service is securely isolated from patient data and a database of the number of unique donors per year is not held. Interrogation of the system to identify the number of individual donors each year over the 10-year period would exceed the timescales prescribed in the Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014. Therefore, Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied in this respect.

Some donors will give up to three donations per year, this being dependant on their blood group, being able to meet the donation acceptance criteria and their availability.

Please see the table below for the number of blood donations made each year from 2013 to 2017. Complete data for 2018 to 2021 has previously been provided in response to a Freedom of Information request, published on www.gov.je in November 2022.
