Number of Endometriosis diagnoses (FOI)

Please could you kindly provide the following information:

A

How many women in Jersey have been diagnosed with endometriosis?

B

What is the average length of time it takes to reach an endometriosis diagnosis (from initial appointment flagging issues to diagnosis)?

Response

The information requested is not held. Therefore, Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

In order to diagnose endometriosis accurately women are required to have a laparoscopy. However, there are numerous women who probably have endometriosis due to their symptoms, but who have not had a diagnosis confirmed at laparoscopy. 

Furthermore, there may be women who have moved to Jersey who have been diagnosed in other jurisdictions, and women who have endometriosis who are managed in primary care, who have never been referred to secondary care for management of their symptoms. GP services in Jersey are private businesses and, as such, their data is not held by Health and Community Services.

(a)     it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or

(b)     it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.
