The most recent population data available (published on www.gov.je November 2022) details 715 patients registered with dementia in Jersey in 2021.

Health and Community Services currently provide 12 dementia / mental health nursing beds in the Dementia Assessment Unit (Beech Ward).

It is not possible to provide figures for the number of people receiving care for dementia in care homes and at home or in the community, as the majority of this care is provided by private businesses and the data belongs to each business. As this information is not held by Health and Community Services, Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

There are six in-patients in the Dementia Assessment Unit identified as being ready for discharge.

The table below shows the maximum number of beds available in care homes registered with a Category of Care identified as ‘Dementia Care’, as detailed on the Jersey Care Commission’s website:

It should be noted that all care homes registered specifically as ‘Dementia Care’ are independent to the Government of Jersey, and that not all residents will have dementia. Furthermore, other care homes will have residents with dementia.

As at 5 April 2023, there are 190 people on the waiting list for an appointment with the Memory Assessment Service.

The average waiting time for an appointment with the Memory Assessment Service is 123 days.
