Request
A
In the year 2019 to 2020, what was the cost per individual of training a primary school teacher on the Jersey Graduate Teacher Training Programme?
B
Who provided this funding and how was it allocated? For example, to the individual schools, to centralised training and so on.
Response
A
All candidate training was funded by Student Finance at a maximum of £6,000 per candidate per year.
Candidates can also apply for maintenance grants through Student Finance.
B
Student Finance provide the funding.
The £6,000 per candidate is allocated as appropriate to cover the following:
- A lead tutor/programme coordinator
- A specialist lecturer
- Release of experienced Jersey teachers from their school roles to lead targeted training
- Quality Assurance visits from experienced Initial Teacher Training post graduate trainers from the UK.
Since 2021 schools have received direct funding to pay for the release of Mentors to supervise training candidates from the Children, Young People, Education and Skills (CYPES) teacher development fund. This additional cost is calculated at £4,000 per annum, or two hours of teacher cover per week.
