Request
Could you please give me figures for:
The number of bicycles reported as missing/stolen in Jersey for the years 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 and up to this date for 2016
The total value of these missing/stolen bicycles for the same periods
Response
The information requested for the years 2011 to 2014 is published in the Police annual reports and can be accessed on the States of Jersey Police website.
Annual reports on the States of Jersey Police website
The total number of reports for pedal cycles stolen for the year 2015 is 104.
The total reported stolen to date for 2016 is 10.
The States of Jersey Police do not hold the information requested on the total value of pedal cycles stolen in Jersey.
We do have a value for each stolen pedal cycle but to create a total figure would entail a search of each individual crime report (over 750).
To do this would exceed the time limit as prescribed in the Freedom of Information (Costs)(Jersey) Regulations 2014.
The number of pedal cycles stolen in Jersey has reduced significantly since the introduction of both the ‘cycle thieves, we are watching you’ posters and the bike registration scheme.
The States of Jersey Police would encourage all pedal cycle owners to register their cycles with the scheme.
