What are the costs paid by the Parishes and the States for:

residential home costs and nursing home costs compared with the costs charged to private individuals located in the same homes?

Response 

Since the introduction of the Long Term Care scheme, almost all Jersey residents are eligible for help with the cost of their care. 

This is provided in the form of LTC benefits, which are paid at standard rates as set out in the two attachments. 

In summary, care costs are supported as follows:

• care fees (in a care home or in your own home) are from £359.52 per week, up to £997.50 per week depending on care needs
  
• board and lodging costs in a care home: £318.43 per week
  
• personal allowance in a care home: £34.72 per week
  

Depending on the income and assets of the person, and how long they need care, these benefits may be means tested, with the claimant making a contribution towards the cost of their own care. Individuals are also able to purchase care at a higher gross cost and make up the difference themselves. In some circumstances, property loans are available to support either or both of the standard costs set out above and additional costs up to a certain level.

Public funding is provided through the Social Security Department and the parishes are no longer involved.

Care homes are run by Parish, private and charitable organisations and set their own fees.
