Please advise of the number of MRI scans performed for the following:-

• Brain
• Spine

• Musculo-skeletal system
• Other

The number of MRI scans for the above listed investigations using a macrocyclic gadolinium contrast agent(s)

The average number of doses of a macrocyclic gadolinium contrast agent(s) per scan

The number of rescans, which are performed due to the outcome of a poor quality image when using a macrocyclic gadolinium contrast agent in the initial scan.

E

The number of rereports required due to the outcome of a poor-quality image when using a macrocyclic gadolinium contrast agent in the initial scan.

Please provide the above information for the five financial years from 2018 to 2022.

Health and Community Services’ (HCS’) Radiology Information System records are not held in a format that allows reporting of scan statistics by body area. Whilst detail of the body areas scanned will be held in system records, identifying the data requested would require a manual analysis.  

A Scheduled Public Authority is not required to create new datasets nor manipulate existing datasets in order to respond to Freedom of Information requests. Furthermore, the time necessary to identify and extract the data requested from the records that are available would exceed the timescales prescribed in the Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014. Therefore, Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

HCS does not follow the financial years employed in the NHS. The attached table details the total number of scans performed per calendar year for the previous five complete years, and how many of those scans utilised contrast.

HCS’ Radiology Information System records are not held in a format that allows for the requested information to be identified without manual analysis of all scan records in scope. Reviewing the records of all scans from the 5 year period would exceed the timescales prescribed in the Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014. Therefore, Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.
