Please provide a breakdown of offences where the use or possession of a knife or bladed instrument was reported and recorded as a crime for the period from 2020 to date.

For each year, please provide age group and sex of the suspect.

For the same period, please confirm the number of occasions when a knife or bladed instrument was reported to the States of Jersey Police.

NOTE: The number of suspects may differ from the number of recorded crimes because there may be multiple suspects in one crime, and/or the same offender may commit multiple crimes.

NOTE: Interpretation of the below figures should factor in the methodology used to obtain them. Key words were used to search the log text of reported incidents, these key words included ‘knife’, ’blade’, ‘stab’ etc and permutations (i.e., plurals). Therefore, caution should be applied to interpretation. Based on closing codes of incidents, approximately 20-24% in any year of the below incidents are finalised as ‘crime related’. A proportion of these crime related incidents are then recorded as a crime, appearing in table 1 above. A further 64-70% of the below incidents in any year are ‘public safety/welfare’ related, which includes mental health and self-harm.
