Pleae advise the number of people under the age of 18 who are currently known to have:- 

a) bulimia 

b) anorexia 

c) ARFID (Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder)

d) Orthorexia 

e) OSFED (Other specified feeding or eating disorder)

f) Binge eating disorder (BED)

g) Pica (a feeding disorder in which someone eats non-food substances)

h) Rumination disorder.

Please provide the number of people known to have the above conditions for each year from 2019 to 2023.

Of the numbers provided in answer to question C, how many received treatment for each year from 2019 to 2023.

Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)

A

A total of 25 young people under the age of 18 are currently known to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) as having an eating disorder. CAMHS do not record the diagnosis as specifically requested, however, we are able to provide the following breakdown.

This data has only been available in a recordable format since January 2024, prior to this, diagnosis was only recorded in case notes. The department have determined that to produce a breakdown for each eating disorder per year would require analysis of each individual file. This would take in excess of 12.5 working hours as this information is not held in a format that we can report from.  Therefore Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

Adult Mental Health Services (AMHS)

Where fewer than five people are known to the service with any of the specified diagnoses, disclosure control has been applied to protect the personal information of individuals, and are shown as ‘<5’ in the list below. Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law has been applied:

Figures for previous years cannot be provided, as details of diagnosis and treatment for those under the care of the service are not available in a central record, though this information will be documented within an individual’s care records. As records are not held in a format that allows for the requested information to be discerned without manual interrogation, and as examining the individual records of all service users in scope of this query would exceed the timescales prescribed in the Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014, Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

Article 16 - A scheduled public authority may refuse to supply information if cost excessive

(1) A scheduled public authority that has been requested to supply information may refuse to supply the information if it estimates that the cost of doing so would exceed an amount determined in the manner prescribed by Regulations. 

Article 25 - Personal information

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –

(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018; and

(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.​
