List of gun ownership by Parish (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 20 June 2024.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

A

Please provide an anonymised list of gun ownership in Jersey. Please list the number and type of gun(s) per individual and organise by parish.

B

Please list the number of lapsed gun licences and the date on which they were followed up and action taken.

Response

A

To provide the number and type of guns held by each individual would require a manual inspection of each certificate. The States of Jersey Police estimate that, to retrieve and extract the requested information for each individual would significantly exceed the time limit, as provided by Article 16(1) of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 and a response to this particular question is declined. The States of Jersey Police are however able to provide the following information:

As of 11 June 2024, the number of active licences was 1,162, with the number of firearms and component parts totalling 8,378. This information is broken down by each parish in the attached documents.

Table 1 - All Parishes.pdf

Tables 2 - 13 - Individual Parishes.pdf

B

The total number of lapsed firearms licensed is 49. The States of Jersey Police does not hold further information on these as the matter is administered by the relevant parish, although a number of these are likely to involve current processing of renewal documents. The applicant is advised to make a separate request to the parishes in writing should this information be required to
