Response

A

One States of Jersey Police officer was arrested on suspicion of a sexual offence in 2021. On investigation there was insufficient evidence to confirm an offence had occurred. This officer is no longer a member of the States of Jersey Police. No officer was arrested for alleged domestic abuse during the last 10 years.

B

No States of Jersey Police officers have been convicted of any sexual or domestic abuse offence in the last 10 years.

C

There have been two sexual offences that are alleged to have occurred on police premises, one in 2021 and other in 2023. In neither case was there sufficient evidence to conduct a criminal enquiry. Neither of these officers are still serving.

D

The Jersey Police Complaints Authority do not investigate officer misconduct and therefore do not generate reports. Their role is to oversee that internal processes have been correctly followed.

Internal investigations are not public records therefore reports are withheld and Article 25 (2) of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

Articles applied

Article 25 - Personal information

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –

(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018; and

(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.
