i) States of Jersey Police; or

ii) the Jersey Gambling commission

In what ways does the Government of Jersey tackle gambling addition, and how has it invested in preventing gambling addiction in each of the last five years respectively?

i)

The following table is based on people who have approached the States of Jersey Police (SoJP). Where the number of people is below 5, the precise numbers have been withheld in order to protect the identity of individuals. Article 25(2) of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

​​*People contacting the Police to:  

a) to seek help for themselves due to a gambling addiction

b) on behalf of someone they believe is suffering from a gambling addiction, 

c) because of any issues (a fight, dispute etc.) triggered by someone having an addiction to gambling.

This does not include people contacting SoJP about scams in which money has been given to/used on betting/gambling websites.

ii) 

The information requested is not held by the Government of Jersey. Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies. However, it may be held by Jersey Gambling commission so you might wish to send your request in writing to:

It should be noted that Jersey Gambling Commission is not a Scheduled Public Authority and therefore not required to respond under Freedom of Information legislation.

Article 3 - Meaning of “information held by a public authority”

For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –

(a)     it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or

(b)     it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.

Article 25 - Personal information

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –

(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018; and

(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.​
