Response
Annual figures for the number of specimens reported as skin cancer, from 2021 to 2024 (to date), are detailed in the table below. Data includes all cases coded on the laboratory computer system as ‘skin’ and ‘cancer’. Numbers of specific cancer types are not detailed in this search. A person may have had one or more diagnosed skin cancers, either in the same year or across different years. Therefore, multiple entries may be recorded for the same patient (depending on the number of separate diagnoses).
Year | Case Count |
2021 | 1,203
|
2022 | 1,140
|
2023 | 1,083

2024 to date | 542

The above data resulting from simple search methodology should be considered in the context of the last available detailed analysis included in the Channel Island Cancer Report 2020 and published by Public Health England.
Channel Islands Cancer Report 2020 (gov.je)
It is reasonable to expect some increase of the skin cancer numbers in the following years similar to other geographies – that increase is likely to be mid to high single-digit percentage per year. More accurate incidence numbers will be available when the updated edition of the Cancer report is published in the future
Similar methodology was employed to report the 2019 and 2020 data provided in the previous Freedom of Information response referenced. Laboratory specimen data would have been complete for the years reported at the time of the response publication.
