Request
A
How many prisoners at HMP La Moye are being treated for mental health conditions?
B
What conditions are most prevalent such as anxiety, stress, or more severe conditions?
C
How many prisoners at La Moye are prescribed drugs for a mental health condition?
Response
A
The answer to this question is dependent on what you class as a Mental Health condition. Symptoms of Mental Health can be present without any underlying diagnosis, symptoms can be fluctuant, and individuals can be symptom free, furthermore symptoms do not mean there is a diagnosable clinical condition. The best information the prison can provide is the number of individuals under the care of its Mental Health In Reach Team residing in HMP La Moye, which is 19.
B
Conditions that are present are also difficult to answer based on your classification of Mental Health. Anxiety and Stress can be classed as symptoms and can be very difficult to quantify. Hence the prison can provide information on the individuals under the care of the In Reach Team. It should be stated that individuals under the care of the Mental Health In Reach Team may have Neurodiversity conditions which are separate from Mental Health and thus will not be included. It should be further noted that some individuals are awaiting an official diagnosis.
Conditions include; schizophrenia, personality disorder, underlying physical condition impacting mental health, generalised anxiety disorder and clinical depression. Where numbers are fewer than five, disclosure control is applied to avoid identification of individuals, therefore figures for each condition cannot be provided. Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.
C
38 prisoners are on medications in HMP La Moye that can be associated with managing a diagnosed mental health condition or addressing generalised symptoms.
