Yes, it comes directly out of the Education Department budget.

Yes, this money is still used by schools.

The Cathy Bull report resulted in funds being identified to support work towards behaviour and well-being in both primary and secondary schools.

Secondary schools:

Additional funding of £623,100 was introduced in 2011 for secondary schools. 

This funding rose to £793,552 in 2015 and is allocated to the four States secondary schools for 11 to 16 year olds. It is not divided equally but based on need.

Sufficient budget was and still is allocated to each school to provide support for attendance, counselling and beha​viour. 

These schools all have an attendance officer (now called an Education Welfare Officer), a school counsellor and a behaviour support teacher. There is also an amount included in the budget for administration.

Primary schools:

Additional funding of £100,000 was introduced in 2011 for primary schools. 

The funds were used to provide a ‘Quiet Place’ in five of our town primary schools. These schools were identified for priority by the use of particular data.​​

Today, the budget is allocated centrally and resources are still targeted in the same way. 

However, it now provides for a ‘well-being’ team that provides a support service across all primary schools. 

The total number of hours that this team of colleagues can provide is proportionally allocated across our primary schools based on identified need. 

In addition, central funds were found to provide a school counsellor resource for the Alternative Curriculum, D’Hautree House, Hautlieu, Jersey College for Girls and Victoria College.

Capital: The Education Department does not fund any major capital projects.

Major capital projects are managed and funded by Jersey Property Holdings.
