Freedom of Information Request - JT Global Ownership, 5G Funding, and Risk Assessments

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011. I would like to obtain the following information:

1. Ownership of JT Global:

Please provide details of the current ownership structure of JT Global, including the identities of all stakeholders or shareholders.

2. Funding for 5G Infrastructure:

Who is funding the erection of 5G masts in Jersey? Please specify whether this funding is provided directly by JT Global, through government support, or via external entities, including any private companies or partnerships.

3. Risk Assessment and Risk Analysis for 5G Transmission:

Can you supply any risk assessments or risk analyses conducted regarding the potential harms associated with 5G transmission, including health and environmental impacts?

o If such documents exist, please also clarify who commissioned these assessments and when they were completed.

If any part of this request is unclear or if additional information is needed to process it, please let me know. I would appreciate a response within the statutory timeframe as outlined in the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011.

Response

1. JT Global is ultimately wholly owned by the States of Jersey.  

2. No Government support is being provided to JT Global for the erection of 5G masts in Jersey and it is therefore assumed that JT Global are funding this from their own resources;  

3. This information is not held by the Government of Jersey, Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies. 

Please note the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority conducts mast emissions surveys and the latest report can be found here on the link below:

It is anticipated that the new 5G masts will be surveyed similarly.

Article 3 - Meaning of “information held by a public authority”

For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –

(a)     it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or

(b)     it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.
