Have there been budget cuts in 2025 since 2024 to schools for "teaching and learning"?

If not, what's the increase in budget?

Provide the figures for secondary schools for last three years

Response

The gross expenditure budgets for Government of Jersey secondary schools have been used as a proxy for ‘teaching and learning’ as all line items are required to fund a school environment.

Budgets have gone up with the exception of Le Rocquier School which saw a reduction of £11,000. This was a result of changes in a number of drivers in the School Funding Formula and Model School for Inclusion.

The changes in budget are shown in the table below. Whilst any changes in the School Funding Formula may have an impact, the key drivers of changes in budgets between years are additional funding for pay awards and net changes in pupil numbers, especially numbers of pupils with complex additional needs. Please note that 2023 and 2024 are the closing budgets as at December whereas 2025 is the opening budget in January. Adjustments are usually made in the Spring and Autumn terms to reflect the changes in the register of pupils with complex needs, and other budget adjustments which may arise during the year.
