Apologies if this has occurred before but I have been unable to secure a definitive answer:
A
How much does the States of Jersey pay secondary schools per student, per annum?
B
In addition, does the fee paid by parents of students at Victoria College and Jersey College for Girls subsidise the States expenditure or act as a top-up? For example, if the States pay £6000 per year per student then does the tuition fee paid at Victoria College and Jersey College for Girls go on top of this amount?
Many thanks in advance.
Response
A
The total cost per pupil, known as the Age-weighted Pupil Unit (AWPU), allocated by the Education Department for 2016 was:
Grainville | £7,674 |
Haute Vallee | £6,751 |
Hautlieu | £6,903 |
Jersey College for Girls | £3,025 |
Le Rocquier | £6,104 |
Les Quennevais | £6,115 |
Victoria College | £3,073 |
The AWPU above is the average per pupil as at 1 Jan 2016, agreed prior to pay awards having been awarded.

The Education Department provides both Jersey College for Girls and Victoria College with an annual budget, the equivalent of 50 percent of what a States secondary school would receive.
Fees are charged by both Colleges to supplement the budget provided by the department; these fees are set by the school governing body each year and approved by the Minister for Education.
