How many diagnoses of Lyme disease as a result of tick bites were made in Jersey in 2013, 2014 and 2015?

For each year, what proportion of diagnoses resulted from bites sustained locally in Jersey?

Response

In the years from 2013 to 2015, five patients have tested positive for Lyme disease. Only one of these cases is believed to have been the result of a tick bite sustained in Jersey. There have been no confirmed cases to date in 2016.

The number of patients tested for Borrelia in each year is as follows:

• 2013 – 22
• 2014 – 40
• 2015 – 69
• 2016* - 26

*to the end of June

A further breakdown will not be provided as the low numbers involved could allow the identification of individuals.
