Could you tell me how much it costs on average each week to feed a prisoner at La Moye, a patient at the General Hospital, and a pensioner in a States' care home?
Could you also tell me what a typical daily menu might look like for each of the three quoted above?
Response
This request has been answered by the Community and Constitutional Affairs Department and the Health and Social Services Department respectively.
HMP La Moye
In 2015, the cost of prisoners’ food was £3.82 per prisoner per day, as published in the 2015 States of Jersey Prison Service Annual Report:

This equates to £26.74 per prisoner per week.

Jersey General Hospital
The average cost of food and drink for a patient on a hospital ward is approximately £4.80 per day or £33.60 per week. This figure includes breakfast, lunch and supper; condiments, snacks and supplements; plus hot and cold beverages through the day.
A new lunch menu was introduced across the General Hospital during 2015. This provided individual choice for patients, some of whom may previously have been unable to have their first preference, and significantly reduced the level of waste. Similar arrangements for evening meals are being introduced this year.
Examples of daily menus for a typical two-week rotation are attached. For breakfast, patients can choose from a selection of cereals or toast with condiments and a fruit juice, tea or coffee.

States of Jersey Care Homes
The General Hospital kitchen also provides food for States of Jersey care homes at the same cost as above. Food is served in a ‘restaurant’ style setting so clients and residents can choose from the dishes listed in the General Hospital menu. The units in the community do not have the personalised choices available at the General Hospital but staff can request changes for longer-term clients as appropriate.
