How many people were treated in hospital for the effects of taking illegal drugs or new psychoactive substances (legal highs), or for complications or symptoms directly related to the taking of said substances between 1 September 2014 and 1 September 2015?

How many people were treated in hospital for the effects of taking illegal drugs or new psychoactive substances (legal highs), or for complications or symptoms directly related to the taking of said substances between 1 September 2015 and 1 September 2016?

List the health concern / diagnosis, the treatment received and the length of time spent in hospital. Broken down by age, sex and residential status.

The Health and Social Services has responded to a number of similar Freedom of Information requests. Therefore, the information is exempt under Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 because the information is already accessible to you on the disclosure log at the links below.

The responses linked above provide a breakdown by age where appropriate. Due to the low numbers involved any further breakdown may result in the identification of individuals. As such the information is exempt under Article 25 of the law.

Exemptions and / or refusals applied to this request:

Article 23 Information accessible to applicant by other means

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it is reasonably available to the applicant, otherwise than under this Law, whether or not free of charge. 

(2) A scheduled public authority that refuses an application for information on this ground must make reasonable efforts to inform the applicant where the applicant may obtain the information.

Article 25 Personal information 

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005. 

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if – 

(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005; and 

(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.
