Draft Health Insurance (Performers List for General Medical Practitioners) (Jersey) Regulations 201-

Produced by the Health and Community Services
Authored by Health and Social Services and published on 29 May 2014
Prepared internally, no external cost

Summary

The Minister for Health and Social Services has, on the recommendations of the General Medical Council (GMC), proposed to introduce regulations that allow for the implementation of a Performers List for all general medical practitioners in Jersey. This will strengthen medical regulation and ensure that all GPs are up to date and fit to practise.

An amendment to the Medical Practitioners Law in 2011 has allowed the Minister for Health and Social Services to also propose two orders; the first proposing that the process of medical practitioner registration moves from the Royal Court to the Minister; and the second to appoint a Responsible Officer. These amendments will enable the Minister to ensure that the register of all medical practitioners is 'live' and that only doctors with a licence to practise with the GMC are included on the register. The functions of the Responsible Officer replicate those of the UK in order to satisfy the GMC's requirements.

This was not a public consultation, it was open only for medical practitioners to comment.
