Evaluation of bovine tuberculosis surveillance in Jersey and Guernsey

Produced by the Environment (Infrastructure and Environment)
Authored by Michael Deason, Thomas Doherty, Rowland Kao and published on 31 Jul 2014
Cost: £10,000.00

Summary

While outbreaks of bovine tuberculosis (bTB) continue in many coutries within the European Union, the Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey have not had a recorded case of bTB since 1952 and 1937 respectively.

The purpose of this study was to analyse current surveillance strategies for both Bailiwicks in order to provide:

  • a quantitative estimate of the probability that the Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey are bTB free
  • a recommendation of alternative surveillance strategies that could be used under conditions of confirmed official disease freedom
