Summary

The All Items Retail Prices Index (RPI) is the main measure of inflation in Jersey. It measures the change from quarter to quarter in the price of the goods and services purchased by an average household in Jersey.

The June 2016 report shows:

  • during the twelve months to June 2016 the All Items Retail Prices Index (RPI) for Jersey increased by 1.5% to stand at 162.0 (June 2000 = 100)
  • the increase in the RPI over the twelve months to March 2016 was 1.4%; hence, the annual rate of inflation increased by 0.1 percentage points (pp) in the latest quarter
  • over the twelve months to June 2016, nine of the fourteen groups of the RPI saw prices increase by between 1% and 5%, on average; in contrast the fuel and light group saw prices decrease by 7%, on average, over the same period
  • all groups of the RPI gave small contributions to the change in the annual rate of inflation
  • RPI(X) increased by 1.5% and RPI(Y) increased by 1.4% over the twelve months to June 2016; the annual change in RPI(Y) represents a measure of underlying inflation in Jersey
  • the annual rates of increase of RPI Pensioners and RPI Low Income over the twelve months to June 2016 were 1.1% and 1.4%, respectively
