​The review is part of a wider project to revise and update the Conservation of Wildlife (Jersey) Law 2000 (CWL).

The species listed in the schedules under the CWL have been extensively reviewed in a consultation process that involved a wide range of key stakeholders.

The review process has identified a number of recommendations and these, alongside additional legal advice, will form part of the proposed revision of the Law.

The aims of the review were to:

• identify and make recommendations for effective species protection
• resolve the issues on the lack of statutory protection for key species groups such as invertebrates and marine species
• determine procedures and processes for the selection of species for protection using robust criteria
• provide a means to ensure appropriate levels of protection, depending upon levels of threat to populations of species

Executive Summary

The review was a lengthy process, producing two large reports and associated documents, so we produced an Executive Summary.

There are 18 recommendations. Each one needs to be implemented to ensure that the schedules remain consistent with best practice, and that the listed species protected under them are up to date based on local, national and international conservation status.
