Summary
This annual report uses data from the Jersey Child Measurement Programme (JCMP) to examine changes in children’s body mass index (BMI) that have taken place since 2000 for children aged 4-5 years old and since 2011 for children aged 10-11 years.
This report summarises the analysis of the 2015/2016 JCMP data, showing BMI classification rates:
- underweight
- healthy-weight
- overweight
- obese
- overweight and obese combined
The report highlights:
- breakdowns by child age
- differences between genders
- differences by area of residence
- changes over time
The results of the England National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) are used for comparison.
Height and weight measurements of children are collected by the school nurses of Family Nursing and Home Care (FNHC). The measurements are used by the Public Health Statistics Unit to calculate a BMI centile and monitor changes in obesity prevalence in the population.
