Summary
The Jersey registered racing yacht CV4, known as ‘Cork’, grounded on 24 January 2010 on Gosong Mampango reef in the Java Sea. She was subsequently declared a complete loss.
The report is an independent preliminary inquiry into this grounding and loss. The Jersey maritime administration endorses the report and its recommendations. It should be noted that:
- The report is not intended to lay blame but to assist the sea-going community in improving safety;
- Clipper-Ventures staff and crews have supported the investigation and continue to do so;
- Procedures were modified before the yachts departed on the next leg of the race.
As a result of issues raised by the report, the Jersey administration is continuing to work closely with all relevant parties to ensure matters relating to the accident are fully understood. Notwithstanding this on-going work, it is not intended at this stage to carry out a further formal inquiry nor set up an investigation by marine accident tribunal.
