Summary

The report of the Jersey School Survey 2018 presents data collected in March 2018 from school children in years 6, 8, 10 and 12 to give a snapshot of behaviours and attitudes. As the survey covered such a diverse set of topics, it is difficult to distil into a small number of key points. However, the following topics were covered in the survey and are presented in the report.

  • home life
  • wellbeing
  • self-esteem
  • health
  • tobacco
  • alcohol
  • drugs
  • sex
  • diet
  • physical activity
  • influence

Some sections (e.g. drugs and sex) were not included, or were amended, for the younger children’s versions of the questionnaire.

The survey has been run every four years since 1998, enabling changes in behaviours and attitudes to be monitored over time. Previous versions of the report were titled the ‘Health Related Behaviour Questionnaire’. The results from the school survey will allow everyone in the Island to better understand life from a child’s perspective, and help in the decision-making of those providing services to children.
