Summary
A key recommendation from the report 'A gap analysis of the research and monitoring of nutrient pressures affecting St Aubin's Bay' (Cefas) is to establish the porosity of St Aubin's Bay. Obtaining this data is important because it provides information on how nutrients are stored in the bay. Nutrients stored within the sediment can prolong the occurrence of opportunistic seaweed,Ulva, even after effective nutrient reduction is implemented and is an important component of the recommended modelling process.
The results show that the porosity values for the upper shore right across the Bay are generally lower than those recorded at mid and lower shore sites.
