Summary
The Retail Sales Survey was launched in April 2007 and collects information on the performance of the Island's retail sector on a quarterly basis. It provides an early short term measure of economic activity in Jersey.
The Retail Sales Survey for Quarter 3 (Q3) 2010 shows that:
- the seasonally adjusted volume of retail sales in Q3 2010 was 1% higher than the same quarter a year previously
- this represents the first annual increase in the volume of retail sales for two years
- the volume of retail sales in predominantly food stores in Q3 2010 was 4% higher than in the corresponding quarter of 2009 but declined by almost 0.5% on a quarterly basis
- the volume of retail sales in predominantly non-food stores in Q3 2010 was essentially the same as in the corresponding quarter of 2009 and represents the first quarter for two years which has not recorded a decline on an annual basis
