Summary
The Health Protection Department have monitored air quality since 1994. This initial monitoring involved nitrogen dioxide (NO2), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and sulphur dioxide (SO2). However, in 2002 further equipment was acquired which allowed particulate measurement (PM10). Particulates include dust and smoke and have a well documented respiratory effect on human health.
