Summary The Preferred Strategy Report sets out a framework for the preparation of the new Island Plan, enabling the development of policies that will help us to meet the future needs of the community, our environment and the economy. Specifically, it outlines the high-level vision for the next Island Plan; its strategic policy framework; the spatial strategy for development; the planning assumption; and analysis of housing needs and delivery mechanisms.
The development of the report has been based on the Island Plan Review Strategic Issues and Options consultation (undertaken in 2019); a wide range of recent technical studies and existing evidence; a collaborative review of the policies and performance of the 2011-2021 Island Plan; and extensive and on-going political and stakeholder engagement. The report has been published following recent endorsement from the Council of Ministers.
The draft Island Plan will be released for public consultation in Spring 2021.
