Summary
The Carbon Neutral Roadmap as amended was approved by the States Assembly on 29 April 2022. It builds on the progress made through the Pathway 2050: An Energy Plan for Jersey and supersedes the Carbon Neutral Strategy 2019.
The Carbon Neutral Roadmap outlines the proposed policies to start our journey to net zero. Policies come under four main categories:
- transport
- heating, cooking and cooling
- other on and off-island emissions
- enabling policies
The Carbon Neutral Roadmap focuses on the steps that need to be taken from 2022 to 2026. Future governments will also have to set out plans to go further in the future.
The Roadmap has been based on the lots of ideas gathered from islanders, along with detailed technical studies and the recommendations of the Citizens Assembly on Climate Change, which randomly selected 45 people in Jersey to come together and discuss these issues. It's underpinned by an evidence base of reports.
The draft Carbon Neutral Roadmap’s consultation was completed on 31 January 2022. Almost 2000 responses to the survey were received, in addition to written submissions from individuals and businesses. This feedback was taken into consideration in the development of the final Roadmap.
