Summary
The Retail Sales Survey was launched in April 2007 and collects information on the performance of the Island's retail sector on a quarterly basis. It provides an early short term measure of economic activity in Jersey.
The Retail Sales Survey for Quarter 4 (Q4) 2010 shows that:
- the seasonally adjusted volume of retail sales in Q4 2010 was 5% higher than the same quarter a year previously
- this represents the second successive quarter recording an increase in the volume of retail sales on an annual basis
- the total volume in the latest quarter, Q4 2010, was similar to that of Q2 2008, having fallen below this earlier level for more than two years
- in Q4 2010 the volume of retail sales in predominantly food stores was 6% higher than a year earlier
- in predominantly non-food stores the volume of retail sales in Q4 2010 was 4% higher than a year earlier
