Summary
The Business Tendency Survey is a quarterly survey which provides qualitative information about the Island’s economy in a timely manner.
It covers private sector businesses in Jersey, and asks the chief executive or managing director of sampled businesses for their opinions on the current situation of their business compared to 3 months previously and also for their expectations for the next 3 months
This September report shows that:

Half of businesses reported ‘no change’
- for the finance sector in September 2011, 5 of the 10 indicators were at a similar level to the previous quarter; the other 5 indicators were more negative, with several changing from positive to negative
- for the non-finance sectors, overall, 9 of the 10 indicators were negative; the profitability and input costs indicators were the most strongly negative
- all indicators for construction were negative; 6 of the 10 were improved on the negative levels seen in the previous round, with 4 being at their least negative for 12 months
- 7 of the 10 indicators for wholesale and retail were negative
