Summary
The Retail Sales Survey collects information on the performance of the Island's retail sector on a quarterly basis. It provides an early short term measure of economic activity in Jersey.
On an annual basis:
- the seasonally adjusted total volume of retail sales in Jersey in Q2 2013 was 2% lower than the corresponding quarter of 2012
- both the predominantly food and non-food sectors each recorded a decrease in volume of retail sales of 2% on an annual basis
On a quarterly basis:
- the seasonally adjusted total volume of retail sales in Q2 2013 was slightly lower (by about 0.5%) than in the previous quarter (Q1 2013)
- the volume of retail sales in the predominantly food sector was 1% lower than in the previous quarter
- the volume of retail sales in the predominantly non-food sector was similar to that in the previous quarter
