Special interests of the site
The building(s) scheduled in this report are of inadequate historical, architectural or other interests and do not satisfy the published criteria for Listing.
Originally a row of 3 mid C19 town shops - substantially refurbished circa 2000. The works included partial demolition of the row, loss of chimneys and change in roofscape and other openings, and addition of new dormers and shopfronts. The extent of alterations, although undertaken in 'traditional style' have impacted on the historic and architectural interest.
Retains interesting carved granite street plaque 'CHEAPSIDE' to corner.
Advice offered by MLAG (and others if stated)
MLAG discussed the grading of these buildings at their meeting on 12/11/2012. Members were of the opinion that the building scheduled in this report should be Listed as grade 4, as the buildings retain some external historic character and make a positive contribution to the streetscape.
Jersey Heritage recommendation
De-list. The extent of alterations, although undertaken in 'traditional style' have significantly impacted on the historic and architectural interest.
