Purpose of the Report
To seek to confirm the intention to maintain Elmwood, La Grande Route de St Jean, St John on; and to add St Martin’s School, La Rue de la Croix au Maitre, St Martin; and L’Anciennete, La Route de L’Etacq, St Ouen as Buildings of Local Interest (BLI) to the Register of Buildings and Sites of Architectural, Archaeological and Historical Importance in Jersey.
Background and discussion
The Minister previously considered reports on these buildings prepared by Jersey Heritage and determined that they were of sufficient interest to warrant their maintenance on or addition to the Register of Buildings and Sites of Architectural, Archaeological and Historical Importance in Jersey as Buildings of Local Interest. Notices of the Minister’s have been served on the respective owners of the properties in order to provide an opportunity for representations to be made.
A representation has been received in relation to the intention to maintain Elmwood, La Grande Route de St Jean, St John on the Register as a BLI dated 11 November 2009 and attached as an appendix, but this does not raise any grounds of objection.
No representations have been received in relation to the intention to add St Martin’s School, La Rue de la Croix au Maitre, St Martin and L’Anciennete, La Route de L’Etacq, St Ouen to the Register.
Legal and resource implications
The inclusion of buildings and places in the Register of Buildings and Sites of Architectural, Archaeological and Historical Importance in Jersey is consistent with the purposes of the Planning and Building (Jersey) Law 2002.
Recommendation
The Jersey Heritage recommendation of Jersey Heritage is to maintain Elmwood, La Grande Route de St Jean, St John on; and to add St Martin’s School, La Rue de la Croix au Maitre, St Martin; and L’Anciennete, La Route de L’Etacq, St Ouen as Buildings of Local Interest (BLI) to the Register of Buildings and Sites of Architectural, Archaeological and Historical Importance in Jersey.
Reason(s) for Recommendation
The particular interest of these buildings, as identified and described in the reports and relative to the published criteria for selection, justifies their retention and inclusion on the Register of Buildings and Sites of Architectural, Archaeological and Historical Importance in Jersey as Buildings of Local Interest; and
It accords with the States Strategic Plan commitment of protecting and enhancing the Island’s built heritage assets.
