What the Social Services Department provides
We help people assess and understand difficulties they’re facing in their daily lives. We help people to find solutions to these problems, either by supporting independent living or by helping find care that suits a person’s needs.
The Social Services Department is made up of three specialist services:
- children’s service
- adult social work team
- special needs service
These services work together to provide social care and support in the community.
How the Social Services Department can help you
We provide advice, support and services in the following areas:
- children in need of protection from abuse or neglect
- children who need extra services to reach a good standard of health and development
- children who need care because they can’t live with their own parents
- adults with a learning disability or autistic spectrum disorder who needsupport to be independent and live a full and valued life
- adults who need protection from abuse or neglect
- older people who need to be assessed to get nursing or residential care
- adults who need extra services to maintain their health, safety and independence (eg people with a physical or sensory disability or a brain injury)
- people who may need help caring for elderly or disabled family members or others
