Reference and local studies
The reference library and local studies collections are on the first floor of the town library and offer a wide range of reference works, newspapers and magazines including:
- local newspapers, from 1847 to present day
- books and journals on ancient and modern topics
- local maps and plans
- census records
- States' publications
- laws and regulations
Our specialist library staff can help you with your enquiries by telephone, fax, email or in person during opening hours.
The reference library also offers the following facilities:
- study spaces
- photocopier
- free WIFI
- microfilm reader printers
Study rooms and microfilm reader or printers can be booked in advance.
Internet, computers and learning
We offer free internet access to all members, including children. Our computers can also be used for studying for the European Computer Driving Licence. You can also sign up for training sessions to learn how to use computers.
School library services
We welcome class visits to the library and are happy to visit your school to give talks to students, parents and staff. We offer an advisory service to schools about school library provision and provide a non-fiction topic loan service to primary schools.
