The Employment Forum has started to consult on Phase two of the employment legislation programme. The first consultation paper, which will be issued today, seeks comments from the public on two issues;
- employees’ right to receive a redundancy payment
- protection of employees’ contracts when they are transferred with a business (known as TUPE in the UK)
The Forum is an independent consultative body and must make recommendations to the Social Security Minister based on the views received during consultation with the public.
Secretary to the Forum, Kate Morel, said "It is very important that anyone who could be affected by legislation relating to redundancy and business transfers should put forward their views during the consultation. Responses from the public are invaluable to the work of the Forum. These are complex issues and the Forum appreciates the time that people spend giving their views."
The consultation has been distributed today to all of those who are on the Forum’s consultation database. Responses are requested by Friday 11th August.
The phased approach to the employment legislation programme was approved by the States in 2000. Other consultation papers dealing with Phase 2 of the legislation will be issued by the Forum over the next two years, seeking views on maternity, equal pay, equal opportunities, flexible working and family friendly policies.
If anybody wishes to be included on the consultation database, or to receive a copy of this consultation, they are welcome to contact the Secretary to the Forum at K.Morel@gov.je, or telephone 280204.
