People in Jersey are being thanked for donating unwanted clothes to Salvation Army clothing banks. It’s now ten years since The Salvation Army first placed its banks in the Island . There are currently twenty-one clothing banks and in 2005, more than 982,000 items of clothing were collected – an average of 11 garments per person!
Garth Ward, The Salvation Army’s National Recycling Co-ordinator says “It hardly seems possible that it is 10 years since we placed clothing banks on Jersey, Just saying thanks to the Island seems insufficient and so we wished to honor your achievements with an Award.”
The award which recognises Jersey ’s commitment to textile recycling and its support of developing economies is to be presented to the Transport and Technical Services Department (TTS). The Salvation Army will also be presenting awards to each Parish Constable as a way of thanking the local community.
TTS Chief Officer, John Richardson says “Textile recycling is a significant part of Jersey ’s recycling programme and is very popular with islanders. My department is pleased to be receiving this award in recognition of the support we give the scheme.”
The presentation will take place at The Salvation Army, Minden Place on Monday 3 July at 2pm .
