Last Friday afternoon, 17 March, Officers from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Department (DVSD), and Customs Department, assisted the Honorary Police in conducting a road check at the junction of La Grande Route de St. Ouen and La Route de Vinchelez, outside St. Ouen's Parish Hall .
Of the 42 vehicles stopped 17 vehicles were required to rectify defects and report back to DVSD. Most of the defects were bodywork related.
1 small pick up lorry was impounded at the parish hall with defective tyres, 1 small car was towed from the check with defective bodywork and 1 minibus was impounded to DVSD for further inspection.
DVSD Officers are of the opinion that 3 of the above vehicles are beyond economical repair and likely to be scrapped.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Department are concerned about the number of vehicles stopped with defects and are reminding drivers that it is their responsibility to ensure their vehicles are in a roadworthy condition. Consequently, DVSD are encouraging drivers to have their vehicles regularly maintained by a competent person.
