Transport and Technical Services (TTS) has been forced to close the road leading to the pier at Bouley Bay due to concern over the lack of stability of the slope above it. This has been caused by the fires that started last Saturday, burning through the vegetation and removing part of the slope stabilization work undertaken 10 years ago.
The area has been inspected by a geotechnical engineer and he has agreed that the road should be closed to the general public on safety grounds. No pedestrian access is allowed and vehicular access will be restricted to authorized people only.
The slope concerned will be netted over as soon as possible to preserve the exposed soil and stop soil erosion but this may take some weeks to implement.
TTS will be pursuing an insurance claim to cover costs.
TTS apologises for any inconvenience this road closure will cause.
