Patients from Jersey who travel to Southampton for specialist health care and who need to stay overnight will in future have a new base in the city.
Jury’s Inn , a recently-built hotel close to the River Solent, is to devote a floor of accommodation to patients attending Southampton general Hospital from Jersey , Guernsey and the Isle of Wight . It will include kitchen and laundry facilities and a day room where residents will be able to socialise and relax.
Many of the people needing this type of accommodation travel to Southampton for radiotherapy, as part of their treatment for cancer. Jury’s Inn will have enough space available to ensure that relatives will be able to stay with them for company and support during the treatment.
The move was prompted by the islands’ desire to ensure that enough accommodation would be available for the numbers of people needing out patient treatment at Southampton in future. The choice of Jury’s Inn followed a careful tendering process, in which the needs of the patients were fully analysed to enable the best choice to be made for the future. The ensuite bedrooms, which are all intended for single occupancy, are bright and attractively furnished and decorated; some also have wonderful views across the Solent .
High quality clinical and nursing care will continue to be provided by the experienced staff at Southampton General Hospital.
