Local GCSE results for 2006

24 August 2006

Thursday, 24 August 2006

Local GCSE results published today again indicate that Jersey students perform better than their UK counterparts.

The pass rate for A*, A’s, and B’s locally, are all higher than in the UK. Jersey has also surpassed the UK pass rate of 98.1% for A* to G passes with an astonishing 99.2%

The Minister for Education, Sport and Culture, Senator Mike Vibert, emphasised how pleased he was to see yet another set of excellent results from the Island schools.

“Together with last week’s A Level successes, we have once again seen evidence of the effectiveness of our Education Service. The GCSE results released this morning are the best ever recorded in Jersey; the students supported by their staff and parents, have gained the results they so richly deserve. They have shown yet again that money spent on Education is an investment in the Island’s future.

The Director of Education, Tom McKeon said he was delighted to see such good results,

“These examination results have yet again exceeded expectation. A greater proportion of entries have achieved A* to C grades and A* to G grades than ever before. Today's results are due to the professionalism of our teachers, the diligence of the pupils and the support of their parents, not only during this year but throughout their entire school careers The Island has good reason to be proud.”
