Atlantic Express, Jersey Airport and Jersey Tourism are hosting the launch of the new Stansted service on Friday 5th May. More than 30 members of the UK press and travel trade have accepted an invitation to fly in to Jersey for the day.
The launch announces Atlantic Express’s intentions to introduce a twice daily service to Jersey from Stansted starting Saturday 27th May.
Arriving at 10:30 the party will be welcomed by Deputy Alan Maclean, Assistant Minister for Economic Development and responsible for Jersey Airport.
Deputy Alan Maclean said: “Stansted is now a major hub for lower cost airline models that are responsible for large volumes of the leisure market and significant levels of business traffic. The route to Stansted will connect Jersey for business and leisure visitors to over 145 destinations in 32 countries. Air links such as this are crucial to the economic well being of Jersey, aside from being of great benefit to those of us living and working locally who journey away from the island.”
London Stansted is now the major gateway into the UK for European low cost airlines and is seen to be well placed both for Jersey residents connecting into the City and the large catchment area of North London and East Anglia.
Atlantic commercial director Basil O’Fee said: “We looked very carefully at schedules and gateway airports to Jersey. The new operation is timed to allow for a full day at either end and also offers good connections through Europe’s sixth busiest international airport.
We will be offering the popular ATR turboprop, ideal for relatively short sectors, and with 46 seats the right size for what is a strong but limited business and leisure market. “
