20 December 2006
The Minister for Education, Sport and Culture will hold a Press Conference on the future of financial support to students and their families on Wednesday 20th December 2006 at 9:30 am in the Education, Sport and Culture Department Committee Room, Highlands Campus.
In June 2006, faced with increasing costs of tuition and the increase in top-up fees by UK universities, the Minister for Education, Sport and Culture published a report and carried out a public consultation process on options for the financial support of students in the future.
Having taken account of the outcomes of that consultation process, the Minister will publish an R&C in the States this week outlining his proposals for the development of a new scheme of student finance.
The R&C report describes the background to the issues, the outcomes of the consultation process and his proposals for the future. Having published his proposals the Minister intends to allow further time for discussion of his proposals and would welcome comment from organisations and individuals by the end of January 2007.
