The new Director of Business Development at Jersey Harbours has over 30 years’ experience in the marine industry.
Myra Shacklady has worked for several major companies, and for the last two years has been Commercial Director at Milford Haven Port Authority. In Jersey, her role will be to manage the development of Jersey’s commercial port and the marine leisure industry.
Commenting on the appointment, Assistant Minister for Economic Development Alan Maclean said: ‘Myra has the experience we need to ensure the development of Jersey Harbours and the port’s contribution to the economic growth of the Island. 98% of the goods used or consumed in Jersey arrive through the Harbour, so this is clearly a crucial area for Jersey’s economy. Ensuring the port works efficiently and seeing that it maximises its potential is a task which will be of interest to the whole Island.’
She will work directly for the chief executive officer, Howard Le Cornu, who said: ‘Myra will be directly responsible for the continued development of the shipping and freight sectors, the ongoing physical and commercial development of all of the waterfront areas, and for growth in the size of the marine leisure industry. She will take the lead on strategic planning to make best use of both our considerable assets and the unparalleled marine leisure environment that Jersey boasts. It is going to be a challenging and demanding role, but I’m convinced we have the right person to do it.’
